The New Jersey Department of Education has proposed updated regulations for preschool classrooms that will impact space planning for K-12 facilities by the end of the 2025-26 school year.
What does this mean for your facilities?
Pre-K classrooms must now meet a 42 square foot per child standard for Preschool Education Aid programs with a maximum occupancy of 15 students per classroom.
Each classroom must include a private, accessible toilet room with child-appropriate fixtures.
The new required size of a preschool classroom plus toilet room is about 20% - 25% smaller than previously mandated.
Feel free to call if you need clarification or additional information.
